3 Summer Activities to Enjoy in Hawaiian Gardens

    Last updated 7 months ago

Hawaiian Gardens is the smallest city in Los Angeles County, and the perfect place to enjoy some quiet time with family or friends. If you are looking for fun summer activities for little to no cost, consider these great ideas in Hawaiian Gardens:

Try Your Luck at Hawaiian Gardens Casino

If you are looking for a great night out with friends, try your luck at Hawaiian Gardens Casino. Hawaiian Gardens is one of only seven Los Angeles County cities to allow casino gambling, and the casino is the top employer in the city. Try your luck at a No Limit Hold’em tournament or one of the casino’s blackjack tables. When you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy a meal from the international menu. You can also relax with an onsite massage. Take a taxi to and from the casino to maximize the fun!

Stay Active at C. Robert Lee Activity Center

Keep cool while staying active by stopping by the C. Robert Lee Activity Center in Hawaiian Gardens. The center features a full-size gymnasium with basketball and badminton courts. Stop by between noon and 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to enjoy free use of the basketball courts for residents ($1 for non-residents). You can also enjoy racquetball from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or tennis from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cool Off at Lee Ware Pool

Enjoy a refreshing swim this summer at Lee Ware Pool. The pool offers a variety of free programs and activities, and admission is free for all residents. If your kids need to practice their swim strokes, sign them up for lessons, which run from now through the beginning of September. A taxicab can take you home after a day of fun in the sun!

    2013 Belmont Shore Car Show

    Last updated 7 months ago

Long Beach, CA - Sunday, September 8, 2013 - The Belmont Shore Business Association is hosting the 24th Annual Belmont Shore Car Show Sunday, September 8, 2013, 9am to 3pm. The event is a long-standing community favorite that draws upwards of 50,000 from all over California to Belmont Shore.

The fourteen-block stretch of East Second Street will be closed from Bayshore Avenue to Livingston Avenue for the event.  Up to 600 classic cars will be on display making it one of the largest car shows of its kind on the West Coast.  The side streets that intersect with Second Street will also be closed to the alleys for the purpose of exhibiting cars.

What makes this car show unique is its location.  Taking place on the usually busy Second Street (driven by an estimated 40,000 vehicles per day), attendees have the opportunity to intermix shopping and dining with viewing the gorgeous automobiles.  After all Belmont Shore is home to over fifty unique and upscale shops and nearly fifty restaurants, cafes and sweet shops!  You also can't beat the weather of this beachside town with the warm sun and ocean breezes.

But of course it's the cars that bring the large crowd.  You can expect to find some of the first automobiles ever made as well as classic roadsters, coupes, sedans, convertibles, muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods and low riders from the 1920's through the mid 1970's.  Many cars are one-of-a-kind, limited editions or customized.  It's estimated that the total value of the cars on display will be in the ballpark of $25 million!

Sponsors present at the show include Performance Plus Tire, Port of Long Beach, Long Beach Airport, Verizon Wireless (locally owned & operated), Rite Aid, Machan Sign Co., Satellite Solutions, Greenhill Memorial Park, Gazette Newspapers, Yellow Cab, and unique Vendors will line the streets. Returning to coordinate the Car Show is the Bay City Rodders car club of Seal Beach.  The cost to enter is $30 for pre-registration, $35 at the show, and $80 to be a "power parker".  Power parkers allow entrants to park in their chosen location without waiting in line prior to regular entries. Visit  www.baycityrodders.com for an application and more information on entering.

East Second Street from Livingstone to Bay Shore and intersecting side streets from Quincy Avenue to Claremont Avenue will be closed to traffic from 5:00am to 5:00pm. We recommend parking in the beach lot off Ocean Blvd

LONG BEACH TRANSIT LINES A, D AND 131 WILL BE ON DETOUR.  THERE WILL BE NO SERVICE ON 2ND STREET BETWEEN LIVINGSTON AND BAYSHORE ON SUNDAY, Sept. 8 FROM 5:00AM UNTIL THE CAR SHOW IS OVER AND 2ND STREET IS REOPENED BY THE CITY.
YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BOARD LINES A, D OR 131 ON BROADWAY AT PARK ON BROADWAY AT SANTA ANA AND ALSO ON BAYSHORE NORTH OF 2ND STREET
